We welcome juniors of all ages and standards

CONTACT US

Coombe Wood has become one of the best clubs, in Surrey, for the development of junior golfers.

Our key strategy for the 2021 season and beyond is to be able to offer a clear and structured approach for our junior members. Offering all of the benefits experienced by our adult members. This includes:

  • Organised competitions
  • Diarised group lessons
  • Consistent and defined communication throughout the year about upcoming events and activities.

To achieve these strategies, we will rely heavily on some brilliant individuals who have volunteered their time to ensure the future success of the junior section.

  • Club Welfare Officer
  • Junior Organiser
  • Competition Co-ordinator
  • Teaching PGA Professional

Tee Times:

Coombe Wood Golf Club wants to breed a culture where juniors feel comfortable using the golf course just like any other member. Intelligent Golf is currently utilised to book tee times in advance. At the time of joining, a login will be sent to the junior member/guardian to allow access to the online system.

Tee times will be available to book:

  • Monday to Friday – anytime
  • Saturday and Sunday and Bank Holidays – from 2pm* (1pm in the winter months) *unless playing in a club competition in which case tee times will be allocated by the proshop

*Please note that juniors under the age of 12 cannot play on the course at any time unless accompanied by an adult.

COMPETITIONS

Over the years participation in junior competitions has dwindled and we believe in this instance, less is more. We have refined the competitions calendar to five main events, and these should be diarised by juniors/parents and guardians to actively promote participation:

  • David Blaby Trophy (1st Major of the year – The Masters)
    Saturday 12th June – 2pm
  • Junior Club Championship (2nd Major of the year – The PGA Championship)
    Sunday 4th July – 2pm
  • Keith Gay Trophy (3rd Major of the year – U.S Open)
    Saturday 17th July – 2pm
  • Fred Jeeves Trophy (4th Major of the year – The Open Championship)
    Saturday 11th September – 2pm
  • Junior Open (The Lisa White Memorial Trophy) - Saturday 18th September 1pm - Click here for entry form
  • Lunt Roberts Trophy (Unofficial 5th Major of the year – The Players Championship)
    Sunday 22nd May 2022

In addition to the above-mentioned club competitions, Coombe Wood Golf Club is proud to be a host venue for one of the Surrey Junior Golf Opens where winners qualify for the SGU Junior Order of Merit.

This will take place on the 18th September 2021 with tee times from 1pm.  This competition has some fantastic prizes up for grabs and having home course advantage will play perfectly into our junior members hands.

*You must have a handicap if you want to play in a competition and if you have not yet got one, we encourage you to do so as soon as possible.  The competitions really are great fun and a fantastic way to improve.

How to get a handicap

Junior handicaps are awarded once you have completed: six nine-hole cards or three 18-hole cards or a suitable mix of nine and 18-hole cards.  Handicap cards can be marked anytime but must be marked by an adult or junior that has a handicap.  Cards can also be marked on the same day as the competition events.

*Juniors with handicaps of 18 or less are encouraged to put their name down to play in all club competitions, both junior and adult. For any queries, please chat to the proshop or main office.

PRACTICE FACILITIES

Coombe Wood Golf Club has identified that there is a need for better practice facilities and by having these in place and an area for juniors and members to work on their short game will add further value to the membership.

Thanks to a £5,000 grant from England Golf, we are aiming to install 6 bays, (3 covered, 3 externals) to be used throughout the year for individual as well as group classes hosted by our teaching PGA Professional.

Drainage lines have been dug to assist with drying out the area during wetter months while the bunker and green will be uplifted to create a better all-round practicing experience. The aim is to have the bays installed by end of June 2021 with the green and bunker improved by end of 2021.
